Too many important experiences in our community are never documented.

Every day, people share stories of harmful interactions involving police, bylaw, security personnel, housing providers, service providers, private citizens, and other incidents affecting the safety, dignity, or rights of community members. Many of these experiences are never formally reported. Some people face barriers to making complaints, some don't trust existing systems, and others simply don't know where to turn. As a result, valuable information is lost and patterns that affect our community can remain invisible.

The CRASH Community Documentation Line was created to help change that.

The Documentation Line provides a way for community members to document experiences that might otherwise go unheard. Whether you have experienced an incident yourself, witnessed one, or learned about one through your work or community involvement, we welcome your report.

What can be reported?

The Documentation Line can be used to document experiences involving:

  • Harmful police interactions

  • Harmful bylaw interactions

  • Harassment or intimidation

  • Vigilante behaviour

  • Threats or violence

  • Discrimination or profiling

  • Concerns involving housing providers

  • Concerns involving service providers

  • Harmful interactions with security personnel

  • Other incidents affecting the safety, dignity, or rights of community members

How it works

Community members can leave a voicemail or send a text message to the Documentation Line. Reports may be made anonymously, and callers are encouraged to share only the information they feel comfortable providing. If photos or videos are available, they can also be sent by text.

Reports are reviewed by CRASH volunteers and documented in a secure tracking system. We use this information to identify patterns, better understand community concerns, support advocacy efforts, and inform public education. Information may be shared in reports or public awareness campaigns in an anonymized or aggregated form unless explicit permission has been provided.

Important to know

The Community Documentation Line is not a crisis line, emergency service, or legal advocacy service. The phone is not monitored daily, and immediate responses cannot be guaranteed.

If you are in immediate danger or require emergency assistance, please call 911.

Why documentation matters

Community change begins with understanding what is happening.

Every report helps build a clearer picture of the experiences people are having in Campbell River. Individually, these stories are important. Together, they can reveal patterns, identify systemic issues, strengthen advocacy, and help ensure community experiences are not lost, ignored, or forgotten.

Our stories matter. Our experiences matter. Our data matters.
